Talks with Swami

Many years ago I had a series of conversations with a Kriya Yogi who was initiated by Dr. Lewis a devotee of Swami Yogananda. This individual later became a Swami but never put on the robes and renounced the organization, he is a rather independent kind a guy.

Initiation into Kriya Yoga

Bill:  Hello Swami, I am a Kriya yogi from northern California, I have read about Dr. Lewis did you know him at all?

Swami:  Yes I knew Dr. Lewis.  But not well in the way of friendship.  More in the way of fellowship, as I was 23 at the time he initiated me into Kriya Yoga.  That was the most powerful experience, as on tap to the forehead and one on the heart and I was in Samadhi. He wasn’t an impressive man in the same sense as Yogananda who exuded love to one and all.  Dr. Lewis was a practical man extolling us not to be interested in visions and lights etc.  When he spoke, he had the most resonating of voices which I can still hear to this day. I often wondered what became of him.  When he died.

Although I had met them including Rajarsi Janakananda who was through Kriya always it seemed, to be in Samadhi, yet it was Ramana Maharshi who I followed all my life.   To this day, although he and the many others are long gone, I have over the years taught so many people methods to quest for Self.  It is all very enriching. Of course the Self, not being lost, gives rise to that great and humorous contradiction, why an I seeking for something that isn’t lost.  Students get a bang out of that when the light goes on. It is a great joy to see one or two over the years experience the state of sat chit ananda through one or other of the samadhi’s.  I must say – although I started the quest when I was nine, it wasn’t until Dr. Lewis that the experience of union began.

Dr. Lewis was adamant about ignoring visions because he realized and wanted his students to know also that everything is a mind construction.  Ramana Maharshi explains, it is an illusion held in and bound by certain concomitant laws.

The Dream State

Bill:  What do you mean about concomitant laws?

Swami:  When in a dream state, the concomitant laws of the dream state allow you to fly, or speak to people who are dead, yet you believe it to be all true while dreaming.  But on awakening you realize that it was an illusion or a mind construct.  That awakening into the waking world has its own set of concomitant laws which make it “appear” to be real also, until you awaken into the ultimate reality of Samadhi and Sat Chit Ananda, thus giving rise to the inherent knowledge that even this apparent real world is an illusion also.  That being the case, any talk of Masters and Gurus is nothing more than a mind construction.  I think that once one has had, at the beginning of their quest, direction from the exterior guru, it should not be too long before one finds the inner and outer guru are one and the same, consequently to ask that most frequently asked question “Who am I” can be the only sadhana necessary.

Bill: Please explain more about about your yoga practice.

Swami:  So many people get into the studies of Yoga which aren’t suited to the time of their birth into this physical plane, and although Yogananda’s Bhakti type Yoga is so beautiful, it was Dr. Lewis’ Jhana type that suited me best.  And Ramana Maharshi is the great Jhana Yogi of the age.  It is for this reason that I ask for your birth date to see if perhaps you might find another yoga influence more rewarding for you.

Awakening

Bill: Tell me about awakening?

Swami:  One day you will wake up and a light will go on in your head and you will laugh and laugh, and from that moment on be free of questions and seeking.  Ramana Maharshi tackles the whole state of affairs this way:  Bliss is your natural state and you are in it all the time with Grace flowing over you incessantly.  How can that be?  Take for example, you have a brother, and he is upstairs in the bedroom sleeping. You, being awake, think no less of him for being asleep nor do you raise yourself above him because you are awake.  He lies there dreaming, as Lao Tze says, that he is a butterfly, flying freely, while you in the waking state have imagined yourself to  have all sorts of troubles, desires and joys.  When he wakes he will realize , in the waking state, that what he was dreaming was an illusion, while you l0- when you awaken in Ultimate Reality will realize that this waking state is a dream also.  Yet when you both meet for supper, you will view each other as brothers.  Except for one thing, you will know that he is awake to this objective world, while he can never know that you have AWAKENED.

The SELF can never be separate.  We are immersed in it all the time.  Even when we have aches and pains we are the SELF.  We are the SELF while we laugh and the SELF while we cry.  The various acts of crying and laughing and being in pain and joy are a Grand Veil of illusion, that for some stupid reason we become attached to.

Now, apart from techniques, sadhanas, darshans, and holding the company of Saints (so called), all we have to do is what St. Frances calls REMEMBRANCE OF GOD – FROM MOMENT TO MOMENT.  I can fairly safely assure you, that while you are doing Kriya, counting, breathing, chanting, that if in the same instant overshadowing all the above , you REMEMBER GOD.  Now don’t blame me if you go into ecstasy when the light is turned on and you laugh hysterically -BUT – even while laughing hysterically, REMEMBER GOD.  Soon as the remembrance enfolds you , you will cease the laughter and experience bliss.

Swami’s Take on Masters

Bill: So what is bliss these Masters talk about?

Swami: We know when we want to discover what love is, we can deny its existence in jealousy. We know it is not hate. It is not possessiveness of this, so it is with bliss, it is not ecstasy it is not joy it is not Bhava etc. etc.

Bill: What about pain?

Swami: All the great world teachers that I am aware of died from cancer, and had other ailments also. There is a reason for this but that is another story. Ramakrishna died of throat cancer and died drowning in the mucus in his lungs. He suffered. Ramana died of cancer of the shoulder and had horrible arthritis, suffering greatly. Yogananda died of a brain tumor while on the podium, and one only has to look at his last great photos to know he carried the suffering also.

Bill: I thought consciousness was bliss?

Swami: So yes Bill, shuffle off all the worries about consciousness enhancement, as you are already the SELF, you are already PERFECT and you are already swimming in a sea of BLISS. Like your brother who is sleeping upstairs you just have to WAKE UP. Has it not occurred to you, that one guru will give you this technique to do (the airplane route) and another will give you a breathing exercise to follow, and still another will give you a sacred mantra. I’ll will take you to the top of the mountain-but then so will hopping on a bus.

The next time you walk for a bus, or get in your car-REMEMBER! When you turn the key on, REMEMBER! When you clean your toenails, REMEMBER! And when you suffer and make love, REMEMBER! We are swimming in it, and so was everyone else. No one person is above another in this regard, as taking it one step further, we as humans and creatures, insentient and sentient, all go into making up the cell structure of God. Well! Don’t I ramble on? Such garbage-none of it matters-yet-it may matter for you.

Finding a Yoga Path

Bill: So what is the best route to Samadhi?

Swami: The significance of the birth date and name is discord and harmony. First off, just a short summary of Yantra:

The entire science of mathematics relating to the balance and harmony in the universe is called Samkya. Samkya is an offshoot of Mudra Yoga – the study of signs and symbols. On the “mind scape”level the ancient Rishis discovered that there was a correlation between the personality of any sentient being and the mathematical vibration of their given name.(language). Through countless years of observation they could see that names like (western) Bill or Bob or Jim or Harry or Kim all had unique and individualized vibrations which, from the time of birth, began the slow and unending process of altering the brain cells to create a given personality.

The task of tabulating was endless, but soon ALL the known 554,000 combinations of names (in mathematical form of course) could be applied to every known type or character. These types, or characters, also fell into the thousands, and when coupled with the personality of the names – they ran into the millions. The personality of an individual is found from the first name, the last name, and the total of the two names together. The character or intrinsic nature of an individual is found from the time of birth. If these combinations are not in harmony, then there is discord in that individual. Finding the method of harmonizing-these two very-strong vibrations – the name and the birth time, was much like a method of transporting water. It’s not efficient to try and transport water any other way than through a water pipe. No point in trying to force it through an electric cable – it won’t go. It was found that numerically that’s what parents where doing to their children – giving them electric cables for names to try and transport water from their souls.

There are just too many people trying to find enlightenment yet they choose the wrong path – study with the wrong people, and move in the wrong direction. Even in Yoga, disillusionment accompanies many years of study, as most have never had an experience of Samadhi, thus never knowing what Sat Chit Ananda is. Patanjali points the way but the mind is so discordant it can’t recognize what is going on so it struggles with the vibrations.

Numerology and the Path to Enlightenment

Bill: How can one find the right path to enlightenment?

Swami:  The significance of the birth date and name is discord and harmony. First off, just a short summary of Yantra:

The entire science of mathematics relating to the balance and harmony in the universe is called Samkya. Samkya is an offshoot of Mudra Yoga, the study of signs and symbols. On the “mind scape level the ancient Rishis discovered that there was a correlation between the

Even in Yoga, disillusionment accompanies many years of study, as most have never had an experience of Sarnadhi, thus never knowing what Sat Chit Ananda is.

What I am really trying to say to you with all this is that it is alright to break out or break away– or remain-forever with the doctrines you already know. It makes not one iota of difference. You will be lifted when you are ready. YOU-HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH IT. Hahahahahah, What fun it is eh Bill? Just think of looking down the laughing throat of Krishna! You would be swallowed into- mirthful infinity.

The Samadhi Experience

Bill: Tell me about your experience of Samadhi

Swami: Remember when I first wrote you l told you that Dr. Lewis had put me in samadhi Yes that was the breathless state. You cannot have the first stages of Samadhi without being without breath.

Now after that I did travel the tunnel to the star until It turned into a door upon which l knocked. By knocking I mean with a sheer force of will I pulled that light over me and entered into it and became one with it.

Remember it was Yogananda who taught us to do that and how, over the years to strengthen our will, and with the energizing exercises and Kriya to be

able to put it to use when needed, as pulling that light over you is very difficult indeed. It is holding the oneness with it that is difficult as the absolute stillness and breathlessness needed to do it take all. The Will you have, the Will is the Self in action.

There are stages which are more expansive in which the seer, the seeing, and the seen are all one, yet which can all be recognized individually without losing the the samadhi state (sat chit ananda), and that is Sahaja Nirvikalpi Samadhi. In that state the sage is forever in Samadhi while breathing and sleeping and waking and walking for a bus.

Incredible as it may seem to you – you yourself are in that state, but still waking waking, sleeping sleeping and doing doing. It is only when samadhi itself can be extended and extended that one then becomes THAT. I always advise people to take whichever shortcut is available to them or is presented to them.

Dr. Lewis Makes an Astrological Bangle

Bill: What else do you remember about Dr. Lewis?

Swami: I remember once Dr. Lewis made mention to me that an Astrological bangle would be of some value to me. I jumped at the chance immediately and had him make me one up. (He was the metallurgist there at the time). In later years I realized through my own studies, that particular aspect of Mudra was a very viable and helpful example of all the little needful things and methods that are thrown our way as we traverse the PATH.

Yogananda’s Love

Bill: Did you have an experience with Yogananda?

Swami: One thing I can tell you for certain; and that is we are cared for, guided, loved, and taught, and all that we do to despoil the direction we have been given at birth cannot be thwarted no matter what we do. Yogananda was wonderful because he loved the naughty child, and don’t all Mothers spend more time with their wayward kids?. Alas I was a very racy kid, it was Yoganada’s love and attention, and later Ramana’s life saving devotion to me, which saved this brat, turning me, fortunately, inwards to the centre.

It is a GLORIOUS road – a road of gratitude and Heaven on earth. Each decade or so brings us into a new cycle in which we can live out our souls needs. Now being seventy and in this latter period which is supposed to be a time for even deeper contemplation, (It is ever ending, the light gets brighter) I find that l am still a renegade with the bliss.

The NO-MIND STATE

Bill: How does one quiet the mind today?

Swami: The deep sleep state being the one true reality without mental fluctuation, needs only to be awakened to. Even though you are always THAT, the concomitant laws of the other two worlds blind you to that fact. Now think then of it in these terms. Terms of conditioning. Like a record is programmed, we are programmed. If we play the record over and over ( a symphony say) it takes us some time before we realize we have heard EVERY facet of that music, and Lo and behold, because of a groove here and there, the needle gets stuck and can go no further. If you reflect on your own thinking and habits you will see that you are playing the same old records over and over again, and often get stuck in a rut of that great “Bill’ Symphony. All you have to do is lift the needle OFF the record (conditioning) and enter the NO-mind. The silence. It has been called the waking sleep and the sleeping wake.

Just as an example I tell you (for example only) that I have NO-MIND, even while I write this to you. (The NO-MIND will he grasped more by you as Samadhi),and in that NO MIND, I type , I talk, I walk, I work, I argue, I love, etc etc.but all the while I KNOW it is a record being played. The NO-MIND has the “Bill” record playing for you at the moment.

You see the print on the page, and I see the blank sheet. You can read only the print that is there, and I can put any print I want onto the page, never losing site of the paper itself. Have you noticed when you have been reading, you never see the paper. Only the print.

When you attend the cinema you get caught up in the movie, because of your attachment placed on the shadows on the screen. If you go up to it to touch, it is the screen you feel, the shadows that have moved you to tears or fear are only shadow pictures and are not there.

In like manner to the record, if you take the film out of the camera and only allow the pure light to be projected the screen will become apparent all the time.

So now Bill after all that, here is your first little lesson.

Begin to WATCH your mind and how it has been conditioned. Begin to watch the words and the SPACES in between the words, Why in no time at all those spaces will become greater and greater and you will , like the screen, and like deep sleep, be able to jump in that space ,and being awake, experience, the NO-MIND state. Krishnamurthi called that form of meditation, “Choiceless Awareness” AND IT CAN BE DONE ANY TIME – ALL THE TIME – EVEN WHILE WALKING FOR A bus. These forms of explanations can go on and on, and I daresay will. Yogis sit in meditation, Zen Buddhists sit in Zazen, Christians sit in Prayer, but I say unto you (hahahaha) DON’T SIT, Be choicelessly aware, at every moment, until you can jump into the SPACE. It is there all the time. You don’t have to look for IT It is not lost. I like Krishnarnurthi a lot, as he said “Run, get away from groups, ideals, dogmas, and superstition. Run for your life. They are killing”

Leave Yoga Organizations!

Bill: Did you ever teach yoga?

Swami:  When I was 24 I was the Hatha Yoga teacher for the Yoga life foundation headed by Swami Gitananda (a mental genius), but because of my personality, or the fart I was touched by Ramana when I was nine (I don’t know which), the 200 people who came to the centre absolutely adored me. Here I was so young, and there they were, men and women in their 40′s 50′s and 60′s all worshiping me as a young guru. ! hated it so much, because they were seeing ME and not the “I” within themselves. One day when I was giving the lecture, I told them how foolish they were and they must leave – get out – they were wasting their time. As what I was saying to them is what I meant for myself also, I left that group.

Again , after joining SRF, and seeing what was going on as an organization, left that group also. I have NEVER allowed myself to belong to another group or organization again. The few men who headed these groups, I had found, were with me more closely (Ramana and Yogananda) when I had discharged the pettiness of the organization.

Don’t get me wrong, the groups do a lot of good, and all groups are needed for those that are in need of them. Some are a necessary evil. But that is the way of the world. Some of the strongest churches have held hack so many people with their dogma and superstition, yet, they have been necessary, and although losing their hold, are still necessary for some. Once you find yourself being directed by any group or individual – LEAVE THEM! (thats a direction hahahahaha) Get free though! You know enough! It is time to unlearn.

Explanation of the Dream State

Bill:  How does the Self Arise?

Swami: When you go to sleep at night, and dream, you enter into a world with its own concomitant laws, which allow you to fly, speak to dead people as though they are alive, get your feet stuck in the mire where you can’t run from a pursuer. This concomitant law makes that dream state appear REAL. So much so that you may awaken in a physical sweat. BUT on awakening you realize it was only a dream – an illusion, and NOT REAL. Going deeper into the sleep state, you enter the dreamless state, where ALL worlds and ALL manifested form disappear. It is here that the “Self” arises and glorifies itself as sat chit ananda. The world has ceased to exist, your mind activity has ceased to exist. While in this natural state of Self, the world, not being real cannot intrude and say to you, “Hey, I am the world and I am real” It takes, upon awakening, the testimony of others, that the world was actually there, BUT they were awake when they told you that.

Desiring God

Bill:  How can the mind conceive of God?

Swami:  When you try to do something, there is effort. Where there is effort there is no love. You know yourself when you love doing something time is fleeting, it is effortless. The doing, in order to get, is greed – it is desire. Out of your puny mind you conceive of a God which you desire: and should you even get that it would be most disappointing because God being infinite, the getting and desiring would have to go on unending and ungetting. You will be in a state of constant unfullfillment. You cannot GET God. God gets you! So give up trying.

You are in a constant state of Grace, and should therefore be constantly grateful. It is the only technique needed, God the noun; is without concept. Impossible to conceive the infinite. Therefore the constant remembrance of him will he like trying to jump into the spaces between thoughts and both or either mental function will take you to that place where God GETS YOU!

Yogananda and Kriya

Bill: You seem to have such a carefree attitude about realization.

Swami: Don’t become so serious about it all. Yogananda used to say ” A saint that is sad is a sad Saint”

You might be getting the meaning of what I am saying, but I will repeat it from time to time. I see you still hold on to, “But Yogananda said.” Regarding the Kriya. it is wise to do it their way, as it can be dangerous to jump ahead of yourself.

The Tunnel Experience

Bill:  Tell me again about the Tunnel at the Third eye?

Swami:  The tunnel, the light, the star, the door are all endoctrinal manifestation. I will explain a bit about that.

The Ancient Mystics knew about those sorts of things and began to cash in on it. By cashing in, I don’t mean they were only after money, although that has played a very big part in all religions and mystical practices. They did it for power and control, and just because they too thought they were actually helping the student.

Seeing the tunnel etc is not a very important step to waking up. It is made to sound as though it is; consequently so many students; on reaching – or worse still, never reaching it, become disenchanted.

Nearly everyone who has a near death experience (NDE) sees the identical tunnel with the light at the end of it. As they travel down the tunnel, they see a star, and those who are precariously close to “real” death see the white door, which they enter, upon which they are greeted by their Savior (whoever it may be) and by the their relatives (past memories only).

On being revived they exclaim to one and all the wonderful experience they have had. As though transiting through a mansion in the brain, brought, on by the excretion of hormonal juices, should in some way make it a mystical experience. It is not mystical it is perfectly natural normal, and nearly everyone has it prior to “real” death. This experience they have had has changed their lives in many respects. It gives them a sense of wonder.

Much like early Java man wondered at the strike of lightning, or the roll of thunder. They stood in awe at these huge natural forces, and man being an unchanged creature who is EVER learning, stands in awe also at this perfectly natural manifestation. The remarkable thing is, it is neither a beginning nor an ending to ANYTHING. It should be chucked out, the idea of it should be discarded – no matter who has told you that it has some significance. The process of learning to OPEN can begin from there, or it can begin without it. There are so many stages beyond seeing the tunnel that you might find yourself reeling just at the thought of it.

Yoga Techniques

Bill: Don’t people need to know yoga techniques to arrive at the tunnel experience?

Swami:  Techniques in themselves do not bring what you are foolishly seeking (you are it already.) They only bring another technique – another additive – and IF anything at all happens because of these techniques, much more happens by making the quest for SELF one of self inquiry, and by asking yourself the question WHO AM l? You will find that by discarding everything chucking it out – techniques and all, you will be left with and immersed in THAT which is the REAL AND ONLY ONE. YES – AFTER THE TUNNEL THERE IS THE BREATHLESS STATE AND THEN SAMADHI – AND THEN SABAKALPI SAMADHI – AND THEN NIRVIKALPI SAMADAHI – AND THEN SAHAJA NIRVIKALPI SAMADHI.

The Samadhi’s and their attendant accoutrements become absolutely unnecessary and unimportant EXCEPT the Sahaja of the last and final one. The one which we attain in this human form, before going on to other worlds with other attendant concomitant laws. Those worlds, if they exist at all, needn’t be worried about until you reach the Sahaj state. To explain all this and what I was arriving at, l will try very simply, for that’s what Sahaj means,(SIMPLE), to explain just what, in Eastern terms, this word stands for.

Seeking God

Bill: What about the search for God?

Swami: When you are young – and myself likewise, we were ordinary people, simple, living the moment – in pleasure and in pain, in joy and stile, just like every other one of the worlds 6 billion people. Then something – some small seed, trapped us into seeking God.

We searched, we accomplished, we technique our selves to death. We breathed the Pranyamic lessons. We kriya’d the heat and the cool. We head stood and leg crossed, and spine twisted, we spoke the Spiritual lingo, and we adored the great Masters. Finally, after passing through all the Samadhis, we come to the very last one – Sahaja Nirvikalpi Samadhi – only to awaken to the fact that we are the SAME VERY SIMPLE PERSON THAT BEGAN THE QUEST THOSE MANY YEARS AGO, the one who entered the door seeking is the self same one who comes out the door, identical and unchanged, except that we learned a few magic tricks on the way which we !earn, have to be given up anyway!

Some people put themselves through the damn’dest contortions to achieve a certain goal, upon arriving at, they don’t want it, or are disenchanted with the results or the achievement.

Religion Today and Yesterday

Bill:  What about when the religious texts were written how do they apply today?

Swami: The Bible, both Western and Eastern, were written for an age in which specific dark areas of the brain were undeveloped. These LAWS helped man raise his level of consciousness, and in the interim few thousands of years we have discovered the need for a new thought force – a new Religion. And for the Westerner, a need to adopt foreign and other ways (Yoga etc.) making us think that were in actual fact developing in newer directions: But as the NATURAL CONSCIOUSNESS is expanded by forces beyond human interference, we have in the past 50 years developed to such a degree whereby we have a truly NEW way in which SELF expresses itself. It is NOT now the old ways.

These MIND EXPANSIONS which occurred infrequently are now a generation thing. Everything is speeded up. To hang on to the old is not only not working – it is a hindrance to THE AWAKENING.

If the Yogic factories worked, they would be turning out Saints like. Chocolates in a box. The rare occasion that one is turned out and carries on the line, gives some truth to the fact that being bona fide, I also will become a Master. There lies the great delusion, and the sadness. Progress is made much clearer without the trappings of the OLD.

After the Yoga teachers came along, came the two great forces of the THE WAY. One was Ramana Maharshi, and the other was Krishnamurthi. Since their day, even newer thought has captured the imagination of the creative.

On Spiritual Trappings

Bill:  Should one try to become realized or not?

Swami: So I repeat again – You are perfect as you are without any trappings. It is the trappings that will distort, who you are. Like a man dressed stuffily to the nines. He cannot move with ease for fear of wrinkling a collar. He is immersed in how he appears to others. With spiritual trappings a man is concerned about getting about attainment, about becoming, thus removing himself further and further from his souls desire.

The Foundation of Faith in Realization

Bill: So if someone sees the light in the third eye are they becoming closer to God realization?

Swami: Let me explain what the experiences mean:

1. Do not assume that anyone that has gone through the tunnel and into the light is ‘s a master – a knower of God.

2. That a man can have his hand or arm removed, and then regrow it it. Or broken and heal it on the spot.

3. That I can intercede for you, or for that matter any knower of God can and will intercede for you because you ask it.

4. That I am being semantical and intellectual.

5. That there is a danger if you jump ahead of yourself – you will get burned

6. That the energy must go up the spine, and you must knowingly realize you are there – have achieved consciously.  I think there are a few other points but this will do for now:

I start with number 1.
Where you got the idea that passing through the tunnel – seeing the light – seeing the star – pulling the light over your head is an indication of Mastery or God knowledge, is beyond me.   I don’t know where that conditioning came from. It is false! Yoganada never said it as far as I can remember, so that shouldn’t have conditioned you to think that. To be a Yogi Master one has to give all that up. The greatest exponent of Yoga,Pantanjali says “Abyhassa of the Chitti Vritti” It is a famous aphorism, meaning to reign in and control ALL mental fluctuations. Any mental imagery is an ILLUSION. It is this kind of explanation that you seem to be reading over. The tunnel  and the light and the star etc. are “images” in your rnind. They have to be got rid of. Later in his aphorisrns Patanjali adds, “Chitti Vritta Nirhiodha” which means the complete and litteral abolishment, of all mental fluctuation. There can be no wave to bring into existence thought patterns. Niriodha actually mean anhilation.

Number 2.
No REAL Yogi will perform a miracle for YOU. It is the argument that the Masters opponents have used against them. Why didn’t Yogananda heal his brain tumor?  Why didn’t Ramana cure his cancer? Why didn’t Ramakrishna cure HIS cancer? You have read about the healings and the growing of limbs that have been severed etc., but Bill you will NEVER SEE IT. THEY ARE STORIES FOR THE BEWILDERED AND THE BAFFLED AND THE GULLIBLE. And more important you should be asking yourself where this irrepressible need stems from – to see the small or big miracle. It surely can’t come from your desire for God. Do you remember the story of the yogi who practised so many Krya’s and  then was asked if he would like to receive further initiation in it, and he criedout in Joy, “No no! can hardly bear the joy I have in doing the first steps” Now that is a miracle.

Number 3.
Intercession: Do you not realize that intercession does not exist. It is only the IDEA of it that exists, and in that, it is the receivers “belief’ that the intercessor is actually in close touch with God. And in that belief, his own mind, will do the healing, or bring about the transformation he wishes tor. So you see Bill, if you believed in me as that man believed who asked for intercession, then of course it works. It is your Faith. Exactly what Jesus said something to the effect, “Ye shall be healed in accordance with your Faith in me”. It all begins and ends in YOUR mind.

Number 4:
Of course when one explains the intricate language of the abstract, one must get intellectual. It is most difficult. God being infinte will not be mocked by being reduced to finite language, but slowly slowly if one has the metal for the incessant interweaving of the threads being placed in the carpet, the pattern will soon appear.  It is because of this near impossibility, that many teachers resort to poetry, emotionalism and sensationalism to capure the imagination of their students. There is nothing wrong with that if that is your way. It is not mine. Yoganada of course used everway posssible, but what appealed to me the most was his diamond cutting edge he used in his logic, science and intellect. His poetry and sensationalism, I let pass by the boards. Anyone interested in that form of sensationalism should travel to India to see the Yogi who performs his daily “performance” of producing ashes out of thin air. Neophytes fall all over themselves, but a good magician will bring a tiger from underneath a fiat table cloth, with the underside of the table in clear view of one and all. Sheer trickery. YET, it does bring people one step closer to God, at least their faces are turned towards the sun for the Moment.

Number 5:
Great Zen Masters will often put their students through the most horrific tests of faith, giving up, and courage, somewhat the same as Babaji said to a member who pleaded to join his band, “Or I will  jump off this cliff and kill myself’ “Jump then” says Babaji. The idea that you will be electrocuted or burned is a real possibility – OR IS IT? JUMP OFF ‘THE CLIFF THEN. It appears you want to do things “right”, by the book. Jump you will be caught.

I don’t know if you know about Padre Pio from Italy. One year – many years after the war, like 30 yrs after, An airman wrote in a letter to a London Newspaper that his plane was shot down during a dog fight. He had to jump. His parachute didn’t open. He said he wasn’t afraid as at the moment he realized that, a man came down beside him, gathered him up in his arms and floated him to earth. He had many years earlier found a photo of Padre Pio, and published it along with his story.  Within the week of it being published, 7 more airmen came forward with identical stories. Padre Pio was a famous Stigmatist, whose church was filled with thrown out wheelchairs and crutches etc. None of the airmen knew one another.

I can only tell you what I did with Kriya Yoga. Being a renegade I went ahead and found out what the added technique was, and practiced it. Afraid of burning tip? So what? If God wanted me. He would take. If I was worthless nothing would happen to me. Nothing did. So this worthless kid is still waiting for God to take him.

When I read about Giri Bali ( l was 19) not eating, only doing a breathing exercise,  I stopped eating ALL FOOD.  (I have always wanted to prove everything in Yoga). I worked at Holt Renfrew in Montreal. I danced every night, BUT I did a breathing exercise for 4 hrs every nite when I got home. Usually midnight to 4 in the morning. Then went to work again. All I ever had for a period of three months was water with a squirt of lemon juice in it (to keep stomach clean).  I wanted to keep on Rajarsi Janakananda told me  better start eating again.

Number 6:
Energy up spine! Yes yes! but it goes up everyone’s spine. That’s not the point, The point of it all is to NOT have it go to the coccyx centre and then constantly ejaculate spent forces. There are many ways to achieve this other than Kriya.  Otherwise those that had never heard of Kriya would be kept out of the “GOD Club”. It always makes me laugh when I hear a born again Christian state that God is only reached through Jesus Christ. Or any Yogi who thinks that Kriya is the only airplane route. Its precious, selective, discriminating, and just not true either.

Although the energy is a psychic energy it does influence the physical aspect of sex force. That’s why Tantra Kriya came in to being. Its a powerful union of the two forces. It is this aspect that can be dangerous in Kriya for the neophyte. It should only be practiced by someone living the sattvic life. Becoming celibate is great, providing sex is not in the mind. IF IT IS, it is better to have sex, then to repress it, as that can lead to insurmountable psychic problems. But yes. If you are free of sex in celibacy, you have already taken – on your own, 2 wonderful steps.

By the way; no matter how long you are celibate, and then go back to sex, NEVER feel guilty. Sex is wonderful too. When the time is ripe, sex will leave YOU.

The Allegory of Spiritual Realization on the Physical Level

Bill:  What is the process of realization on the physical level?

Swami:  No matter what you have been taught, and no matter how it has conditioned you. I will head into that solid brick wall and try and recondition you. Remember always, That Yogananda et al cannot be faulted, BUT and here is the big but – Yogananada wrote his “story” about the lineage Masters and himself in such a way that it would capture the imagination of the Western Mind.

The Bible was also written at a time and in a place in history, AND in a certain allegorical form which would capture that most ignorant of the middle Eastern mind.  Now here I begin a rather lengthy tale of explanation.

All the major Rivers of the world have an allegorical place in the Spiritual relevance to that peoples history. In India it is the Ganges. In the East it is the
river Jordan. When a persons chakras are opened in order, either by effort (through techniques )- or naturally by Grace, and both are by Grace by the way, then  the coccyx centre is said to uncoil its force and begin the spiritual quest up to the top of Mt Tirunarnavali (the sasrarahara centre) As one gathers the forces of the nadis, Ida and Pingala, and unites them at the base of the RED SEA (the coiled serpent), one then splits the nadis (opens the waters)  and traverses through the opening in the Red Sea (the shushumna cannal). This shakti, forces through and opens up each chakra in order readying them for the onslaught of “the spiritual being”. When shakti, through your WILL or by GRACE reaches the pituitary glands (The thousand Petaled Lotus) it excretes a creamy golden fluid (Hormones).  This fluid in turn unites with the  pineal gland excretion (a white milky hormonal fluid) creating the LAND OF MILK AND HONEY spoken of in the bible.

When these two fluids unite, there is an explosion which blows open the Pineal gland giving birth to the Ajna centre, and there is a huge burst of LIGHT. (“and let there be light”).  This energy then traverses down the pancreatic nerve (the river Jordan) to the third chakra that large ganglia of nerves behind the belly button (the manger, and the birth of Christ Consciousness). In the allegorical Bible, Jesus is born at this point.

That very Christ consciousness that an individual has just now experienced, is lifted up through the upper centres to fulfill itself through the vehicle it is at the moment inhabiting. In your case it fulfills itself through Mudra and Bhakti. In my case through Pranyama and Gnana. The whole point of this is, it is not necessary to do ANYTHING. In ALL cases whether you work at it through technique, or whether you do nothing.

God through His Grace will do it for you when You  are  READY. All the work in the world will be for nothing.—Karma is such that if a man wants work and searches diligently for it, he will not find it if his destiny is not to work. The same holds true in the reverse, no matter how hard you try not to work, you will always be placed into it, if that is your destiny.

The final arrival of all the Yogas is Sahaja Samadhi, The text book the text book description of that is: Conscious Samadhi not requiring trance or ecstasy, but compatible with full human facilities. The state of the Gnani.  The above description of traversing the chakras and what all this means is simply to try and have you see that it is Glandular and endoctrinal, it is all body Chemistry.

It all takes place in YOU.

Jesus is not outside you He is in you in the third centre and later full blown in the Ajna and upper thousand petalled lotus centre the soft palette in the baby. Yogananda speaks of this also. We don’t even know whether Jesus existed or not. There is not one document that says he does. The mere fact that many savants have seen him, means nothing. They are all hallucinations.  If you were to see him as a revelation – or Yogananda for that matter – it is nothing more than an hallucination.

When a black Christian sees Jesus he sees him Black. When a hindu sees God he sees Krishna. It all depends what your conditioning is is how you will hallucinate. The sameness in texts of differing cultures and of their differing sacred texts is because they all come from the savant interpreting his voyage through the chakras, the glands and the endoctrinal system.  By the way one thing I did miss was the star of the East is seen in the Ajna centre as a precursor to traveling to the manger.  I explained before that all NDE’s see the self same thing as you may take 30 or 40 yrs to see. It happens to everyone. Just as climaxing occurs in all men at the point of death.  The body is a microcosm of this huge vast infinite IDEA which  the mind has envisioned.

To arrive at Samadhi or the NO MIND state one has to let go release – to be very thankful to be full of gratitude and to give the cornucopia away, so that in creating a vacuum it can be replenished. Each emptying and filling expands the basket size. Until one day it is overflowing. It is Grace. It is always Grace. It is only Grace.  All the “other” ways are wonderful, and they have put millions of people on track, but ONCE God has nabbed you (The fisher of men) he will not let you go, no matter how you try to get away.  So you CAN let go and NOW let God.

Swami Gitanandaji Giri

Bill:  Who initiated you into the Swami Order?

Swami:  I was initiated into the Swami order of the Gin Mountain group By Swami Gitanandaji Giri of Pondicherry. That was way back in 1955, and Swami just died 2 years ago at me age of 88. He had the largest Yoga school there was- if that means anything. Still, his wife Meenakshi Devi and Son Bali Yoga are carrying on. It was he who taught me  Yantra. I never met the wife.  I remember once in a class one of the wives was asking (during my teaching days with Swami) and wondering, where her husband was, as he should have been in class an hr before.  Swami asked her what her husbands birthdate was. She told him. A bit of quick figuring and he said, “He is phoning you now from a phone booth at the corner of Yew Street.”  The phone rang – it was him!
I never use the Swami title. Me a Westerner a Swami?  ( All sounds so she she camp) But there you have it!   All grate fun ann absolutely meaningless unless you are into organizations.

Seeing the Light

Bill:  What about the light in the forehead tell me about that?

Swami:  Depending on whose translation of Patanjali you read,   will you get an odd interpretation. The foremost exponent of Patanjali, judged by all the other foremost exponents of Patanjali, is said to be I. Taimani. He is worth the read. “Very dry and very wonderful.”  But unless you want to be another foremost exponent, then forego the effort; and believe me when I say Patanjali never mentioned Masters or light etc.

You really want to see the light! It’s crazy. I suppose you have done the little techniques in order to see it. Then when you see it the idea is to hold on to it.  Yogananda explained the light you see with these techniques as a soft moon glow, a perfect ring of gold, nestled on a background of pure velvet blue.
Seriously though, hanging on to the IDEA of consciousness, of Oneness, of Unity as a pre-requsite to Spirituality, is working at it ass-backwards. It’s by NOT thinking about it that YOU ARE.

OK- if you want to see the light and you don’t know this simple method of enlivening the optic nerves to make it manifest then sit at a table in a fairly dark room.  Elbows on the table, heel of the palms of the hands gently pressing against closed eyes.  Look at the Ajna centre.  You will see the golden ring.  Now the idea is to hold it.  So?   You saw a light. So?  You may see a star!  You will be the same.

On Bhakti Yoga

Bill:  If you don’t need the light then what do you need to see God?

Swami:  In the beginning of the downward swing of the Next Kali Yuaa, another Prince will gaze into a pool and on seeing his reflection will think he would look much nicer with a jewel here and a diamond there. A little red to the lips and fancy cloth on the body. That is the beginning of ALL THE MADNESS.  Now just stop looking in those pools for the light.  Try it this way, go back (prodigal) to your original  base where you already are perfect,  It is this infernal wanting to SELF REFLECT on  your own perfection.  Dance and play your flute, gather around you lots of Radas, but have fun without the Yoga.  Believe me – no don’t believe me! But try – God trapped you – HE won’t let you go, no matter what you do. He likes naughty kids. Play with  Him – Love Him Tease Him, but for His sake don’t try and buy him with techniques or presents.

Think back to the suckling babe while asleep – the work goes on, getting the milk.  This time though you will be awake in God and asleep while you do your work.  No one will know.  Its okay!  They may think something is up when you have a grin on your face all the time.  You are wise not to talk to people about it.  Yoga I mean – or God.  When you truly love you don’t wear your heart on your sleeve.  The depth is your secret.

Practice Self Reflection

Bill:  If you don’t need to see the light then what do you need to see God?

Swami:  In the beginning of the downward swing of the Next Kali Yuga, another Prince will gaze into a pool and on seeing his reflection will think he would look much nicer with a jewel here and a diamond there. A little red to the lips and fancy cloth on the body. That is the beginning of ALL THE MADNESS.  Now just stop looking in those pools for the light for the samadhis, for the unities.

Exercise Seeing Light Eyes Open

Bill: Can you explain a good technique for seeing the light?

Swami: Okay, make sure when you do the breathing, you keep your eyes WIDE OPEN in the spiritual gaze. That is done by slightly “popping” the eyes out a bit. Do not LOOK for any light. If any vision comes to you – “of any kind” then as soon as you can remember, just look ahead at the open light in the room.. The light between you and me, between you and your wife is what you should see. THAT light that is in between everything, is what you should be looking at. NOT some flame or some candle light – or a star, or a ring. Those are shapes with quality, and they BIND: The light between us has no shape and it is without quality. That is what should be centered on.

That way we can become free of chitti vritti. And that way we begin to see the LIGHT within the “space light”. I know – it is so many words, but think about it and you will see how one binds and the other keeps you in touch at all times with the infinite. The light is right there in front of you:

Giri Bala Pranayama Exercise

Bill:  What was the exercise that Giri Bala did so she wouldn’t have to eat?

Swami: Well the balanced breath exercise I did for 3 hours, then one hour of breathing after that worked for me..  I lost 20 pounds then that was it.  As for being tired, well just try it if you wish, and if it doesn’t work for you – it is no big loss, just stop it, I – found I would get home around midnight. I would do the deep breathing exercise for 4 hrs while looking straight ahead and seeing light (of the room – however much there was), then would have 2- 3 hrs sleep. I had more energy than I have ever had. You will not be tired at all.

Remember the breathing builds Pranic Energy, doing it for such a long time straight off may tire your rib cage, so only practice it while you remain comfortable. When doing the 12-3 breath while sitting at home, please make a circle with the thumb and forefinger, and in some way have your legs crossed or ankles crossed. It closes the circuit and you retain ALL the Pranic energy.  The only thing I suggest you may wish to try is the 12-3 breath for extended lengths of time only because it replaces the energy you get in sleep.

Later on of course, because you have done this you will be able to practice the entire technique of breathing and “light watching” even while walking for a bus. This. way it brings the whole thing in to your daily life. Giri Bala refused to eat and the practice she did opened the 5th chakra (the parathyroid gland – see! all glandular) . In Kriya it is one reason for the Ahh and EEE sound as it centre’s attention at that centre also. But with this balanced breath, there is nothing you are TRYING TO DO. Only breathing and watching light. is very simple and yet will do more for you than all the other techniques.

Please don’t try and emulate what I did. Find your own way, and while finding it be very happy.

The Zen Buddists.say – “eat when you are hungry, (that means sex too), drink when you are thirsty, and sleep when you are tired etc: The spiritual life is terribly simple. 1t is we who have put so many barriers in the way, We have actually made ourselves believe that we have to do THIS or THAT in order for it to BE. It already is. This simple breathing method I give you will show just that.

Krishnamuthi says, “If you are going to do an act – then DO IT and do it ALL the way. In doing it all the way you get to see what results it brings to fruition. If you only do it half way then you can never learn fully what you really should be doing.

How You Can Recognize a Master

Bill:  How can you tell a Yogi Master?

Swami: Your criteria as to what is a Master sounds so naive to me (: go into the breathless state at Will) there is no limit as to what a master will do – OR WON’T DO. Faquirs go into the breathless state. Faquirs bury themselves for many months at a time. Faquirs immerse themselves under water for hours on end. Faquirs are not Maters. They are tricksters who have learned various techniques to accomplish one of the siddhi powers.

One day you will recognize a true Master as one who does NO-THING. It is God who does everything. He likes his entertainers around. Faquirs are amongst his favorites. As Ramana says: “Of what use is it to sit before a man who lectures and does tricks and changes your life not a whittle, while, before a Master who says nothing, but gazes at you only your life is irrevocably altered.”  But I will add, because God is infinitely variable then I daresay there will be Masters who hold their breath and Masters who don’t.

It is all a futile endeavor to surmize who is and who isn’t a Master, and it detracts from the work at hand. The work at hand is for YOU to wake up.  It’s all really very simple. Celibacy replaces nothing . It that were the case,  ALL celibates would be Masters. By stimulating the lower chakras with sex  you endow them with the ability to open into the higher chakras it is the excess of anything that does not  do much good, although IT is a teacher also.

How to Tell When You Have Attained Enlightenment

Bill: So please tell me how you know you are enlightened?

Swami: There is a way to tell when you have attained enlightenment. Actually it is no different then how you know, on waking from a deep sleep, you KNOW that you are awake. But just as that occurrence happens, awaking I mean, the first personal pronoun of I, arises, and thus begins the journey into bringing into existence all your known universe.

The ATMAN, the SELF is self evident. You don’t need others to testify that you exist, You know that you do – without them. The problem is, well its not a problem at all really, you are sleeping and don’t know that you are awake. Would any caring parent wake a deep sleeping child. When you have slept enough you will awake. You cannot wake before you are ready. It would be harmful.

There are many that have been forced into awakening before there time and used their knowledge in a negative way, and have to FALL all the way back again, only more so. Sometimes winding up in areas of the Astral they would be better to have done without.

Yogananda The Love Master

Bill: So tell me some more about Kriya Yoga?

Swami: You have the perfect opportunity – if you wish, to practice your techniques – although none of them are necessary, no detriment to my wonderful Yoganandaji. As I explained he wrote for a period. His organization will carry that on forever, until they become bastardized as is Catholic Religion NOW. Yogananda was one of the Great Love Masters. I saw a movie of him, which you may have, and as he turned his head and eyes ever so slowly over the crowd, he washed them, and the viewer of the

film ,with a love blessing. His picture is on my bedroom wall, also. We are taken with him and we love him. So if you wish to “hang on to what he has said, then l understand.

The Kriya, in time, will begin to physically use the prostate by incorporating other muscles of the body. This complete Kriya is one outstanding technique. It employs mental concentration to the fullest.. Just wait till you are finished with it. It will prepare you for being able to jump into the spaces between thoughts, even while walking for a bus.. Yet even while in that space you will arrive at the bus, you will pay for your ticket and you will say good morning to the diver, but not ONE THOUGHT will assert through the mind. You will be in the No-MIND.

For me to explain what that is like would be silly, because the best explanation is Sat-Chit-Ananda continually and always united to the Infinite as EXISTENCE. Continually and always united to the Infinite as CONSCIOUSNESS, and continually and always unified with the Infinite as BLISS.

I think I have covered Chitti Vritti. They are mental fluctuations that go on ALL the time, and they will never stop. When you arrive at the NO_MIND, you will make use of these Chitti Vritti (they are not you, although, now you r thoughts are yours, Samskaras on the other hand are a part of Chitti Vritti, and most despicable part, because they are the “Habits”. The samskaras come back to haunt us from time to time, even when we think we have overcome, They are the grooves in the record of thought, which the needle gets stuck in.

Your posture MUST be relaxed. if the back is ramrod, There will be tension, so also if it is bent. As long as you are comfortable. Sit how you wish, padmasana was started because it stopped people from falling over in Samadhi – or sleep.

The only thing I suggest you may wish to try is the 12-3 breath for extended lengths of time, only because it replaces the energy you get in sleep. And it does help teach you. how to be awake, Celibacy replaces nothing . It that were the case, ALL celibates would be Masters.

How to Experience Bliss

Bill: How can one become free of all this conditioning?

Swami:  The “I”, the “ATMAN”,  the “SELF” are all unalterable-no matter what you do, this is not a lesson in semantics. Why would you doubt that you exist? You already are that.  For example a person looks into a mirror and says” I” cannot see myself. This is true because your eyes are bandaged.  Start peeling off the bandages. The first layer of the bandage is superstition, the second layer is heavy conditioning, the third layer is teachings, the fourth layer is pride, and so on and so on.

This peeling away can be done without any effort.  Jump in between the thoughts.  Although it takes no effort, it does take concentration. Concentration is effortless because it is the wife of the watcher. When you watch your conditioned thinking you will expand the time in between the thoughts.  And it can be done all the time, anytime, anywhere. There is no need for formalities of cross leggedness or straight spine or the customary yoga postures.

Although the Masters are wonderful, they have to be let go of. You have to stand alone, naked, and vulnerable. They’re only there to get you started. Do not become a perennial student, throw yourself off the cliff, walk the razor’s edge, remember  ” I” is existence,” I” is consciousness, “I” is bliss. Many people understand that they are conscious they know they exist but they have a hard time understanding they are bliss. If you were to look into a mirror and you are told that that reflection is not you and you believe them you have conditioned yourself. When you ignore all others including teachers, friends, and relatives regardless of who they are, you will find bliss. If right now this second you were to stop and feel it you will know that you are bliss also.

Imagine in the world of man, you were told that a whole man, a pure man, a great man, a God man had three heads, one for each of the trinities and you could attain that “wonder being” by standing on the tips of your fingers, and doing a special technique, essentially that is what you have been told. That you must practice something in order to become what you already are! You know better than that and what is fascinating is why people hang on to these fantasies. When you learn to let that part of yoga go you will lose the conditioning that is holding you back from experiencing bliss.

Predestination and Our Life

Bill: Are we in control of our lives or is there a greater plan at work?

Swami: The question of predestination has been going on for centuries. I think with our understanding of karma it can be no other way. What you see you get, what you get, the seat again. The good Gardner will take a moment to throw out the rotten seeds before planting again. Most people are horrible gardeners, thus you can pretty much determine from the present existence what their future holds for them.

But for a man who lets grace pick out the rotten seeds, his life then can become one of exhilarating changes. It is presumptuous of us to think we can know what is best for us to do. So much of the best things for us to do, have been categorized as evil, wrong, bad, negative, harmful, etc. Yet it is by doing something “wrong”  like that which gives us the very fulfillment needed to advance to the next level.

I think until you come to the point where you can let go and let God, then you will always be making choices which will sometimes be wrong for you. When a tapestry is begun, the stitcher puts a thread in here and a thread in there, and you look and say my God what kind of messes this? But soon a picture begins to form, and much later over a period of three score and 10, your picturesque life stands before you. You look and say, “not one stitch could have been placed any differently.” Of course by this time you realize you are not the stitcher.

We have very little to say and the way in which our lives run. We are in a way that that’s. So of course in the direction you have been given is great, but it doesn’t mean you won’t come to forks in the road. You have to choose one. Is it on a whim? Do you take the right instead of the left?

Most don’t want change or are afraid of the unknown, so instead of taking a new fork, they turn around and go back to familiar ground. You can’t do that when God calls.

My Swami the Atheist!

Bill: What do you believe in?

Swami:  I must tell you here that I am an atheist, and when I use the word God it is for you, as I know you will understand that. Some Jhana yogis don’t have that God believe syndrome, but for most people it’s a hard concept to ditch.

People as I mentioned before, have to give meaning to things they stand in awe of. Early man worshiped lightning, thunder, the moon, Mars etc. etc. Of course being sophisticated today we don’t worship these things anymore as we now understand them, but what we can get a handle on is a complexity of the cosmos, and so we still give it some meaning by clothing it in all knowing, the all seeing, the on this event, the Omni potent etc. And even so to give that power a name of God and a personality that we may seduce praise glorify and praise to.

The link between the unbeliever and the believer is so close it is the same, yet the definition of each is unbearably (to each other) different. In yoga, one is the bhakti and the other is the Jhani. Different approaches arriving at the same thing. It is easier for the Jhani to understand that. Once you really understand that, on awakening the personal pronoun, bring into existence all the conceptions that exist externally for you, then you will begin to understand. The cosmos is not real. It does not truly exist as you think it does.

Love Means Never Having to Struggle

Bill: How can one tell when they are going in the right direction in life?

Swami:  So yes you go on doing what you do, you’ll work towards your goal, even when you know that work entails struggle. As long as there is struggle there is no love. Love is struggle us. When you love you can’t climb mountains, without any effort at all. Whatever your loved one asks you do without effort. It is also easy. Somewhere along the line we lose that aptitude and begin to think we must struggle and then love disappears.

When anything is an effort, stop it! Stop it dead in its tracks! Otherwise do anything you wish as long as you love doing it. Remember the thread? God will not put a thread wrong. As far as yoga techniques they should only be practiced when you love. If that love doesn’t come upon you for a week or two then don’t practice. You know some people love God so much that they can’t wait to get home and do their practices, and the only reason they quit at a given number is that they love their guru, there is no conflict.

To have conflict means no love. Now all that is not easy, because being out of harmony is common to most men and conflict is usually equal to harmony, giving some semblance of balance and happiness. To attain bliss one must have no conflict.

Discord is explained in Yantra as bad which runs through the ”vibration” of your first and last name, being out of harmony with the time of birth vibration. Until these two are harmonized through Yantra then the agent yogic Sears plane than a man’s fulfillment would be forever coming. So, we have been running from one center to the other, or one teacher to the other, and or, those that stick with the same guru the final fulfillment.

Yoga being a very serious love study was brought to the West too early for many Westerners, and they were put on the mystical mystic and spiritual bandwagon in hopes that it would answer the age-old need of the eight man standing in all of the lightning. Yoga is a way of life for a life long time, and it only works when you do yoga in love. Please do not practice yoga unless your heart is bursting. It will then be effortless and your fulfillment will be now.

What is Our Main Purpose?

Bill:  What is our main purpose?

Swami:  It is important to share what you have to give, give what you know to the bus driver the bum on the street that person you just met, you just have to give, give, give until there is nothing left in the cornucopia, until you are spent. Isn’t it remarkable that one man like yogananda could accomplish what he did, when he wrote, how we organized and work. You have to do that. I don’t mean always talking yoga, but by giving of your true self you are working by giving.

Meditation on the Light

Bill:  Can you explain some more about the light meditation technique?

Swami: About the light meditation technique, I want to mention was visualizing the light in between you and I, between you and the car, the shoe, the grass, the water. That expansive light is the light to be seeing with eyes wide open all the time. You have your eyes open, unblinking a little wider than normal looking at light not the objects of normal vision, only the light.

Like the print on the page which is erasable and not stable, it is the page that “is.” The light is the reality and the shoe and the grass are shadow pictures registered upon it like the print on a page. We are all erasable, the light remains.

Swami Vivikananda on getting his American speech to the Council of Bishops in the states send that he saw only shimmering light, only shimmering light, and all else were mere barrages contained within that light. Now you can’t see that until you start, open eyed looking, all the time, like being ready to jump in between the spaces of thoughts. Now you have two things to do at the same time.

Watch for the space and look at the light soon you will see the shimmering. The light in the head and the tunnel and the star in the forehead are nothing more than other mirages. So keep constant alert to look at the light.

First Lesson in Yantra Yoga (Numerology)

Bill: Please explain how Yantra Yoga works.

Swami:  First off the only part of the teaching I would like you to keep to yourself until you find someone who really wants to learn is the  Yantra, it is never to be charged for. Anything you have been given for nothing you must return it freely again.

All the great teachers, even when they were given a fruit or a flower would handle it, admire it, and give it to someone else. No gifts, no monies, the return of it was a touch of darshan. In Yantra the mathematical possibilities of the universe are reduced to nine numbers with the 10th being the 1 + infinity, to any power which one needed. With these nine numbers the ancient Rishis were able to decipher the time tables and the workings of God himself.

Because there is a season for all things you will learn what season you are in and just what is the best way to make use of the influences of that period of time. You will learn in what way your name, in being out of harmony with the time you were born has thrown conflict in your life.

You will learn what mathematical vibrations are best suited to you, and for those vibrations that are in your life already, you will learn now, how and what to accept which is unchangeable in them, and why certain forms of behavior are manifesting, even down to the minute if you wish in discovering this you will say hey, well I’ll be damned, isn’t that the truth about that person, and the other one, and my son and daughter and wife and friend hey this is right-bang on.

But in discovering the truth behind Yantra, you will then look at yourself and there will be other discoveries that will help you unblock. It will take a reassembling of the mathematical vibrations in order for this to happen though, and that is where your newfound knowledge will come in. It is never to be used to manipulate people.

So the very first lesson in Yantra is to learn the vibratory power of the alphabet. For us we use English but it can be applied to any alphabet. Try and memorize this form of simple mathematics so that it becomes second nature to you. Language has a great power and when you learn this use it wisely.

Begin to think of the alphabet in numerical terms and remember when you are adding arithmetically you reduce all additions down to a single number.   Bill is 2+9++3+3= 17= 1+7= 8.  The soul of the name is the vowels added together, i=9, the consonants b,l,l are 2+3+3= 8 the name is a 1 birth path and a 8 mind path together they create the number 9 the destiny of the name.  This destiny should be in harmony with your birth path otherwise it will create disharmony in your life.  It does not change your karma but how your react to and internally interpret the karmas that happen in your life.

Swami is Healed by Ramana Maharshi

Bill:  Tell me another story about Ramana.

Swami:  Two years after the event of seeing him, I took deathly ill with a gallstone attack. I had that healed by homeopathy. Then, some four months later I was in bed and the same pain and distention of the abdomen began. It became unbearable, and I said to myself,  ”I don’t think I can stand anymore of this.”  With that I saw and felt two hands come down from a ball of light and place themselves on my stomach, immediately the swelling and pain had gone, and I have never been bothered since, that is some 40 years ago. I later recounted that to Dr.Sharma and he said that it was definitely Ramana that is how he healed. He healed from a distance, and even now after his death I feel him as strongly as I ever did.

I have never prayed to him or asked him for anything, as a new as a young boy that like JOB if God ever loves you-you will suffer-so I always absorbed everything myself. But in this instance when I said to myself I could not stand it anymore, he came. Odd, how it works.

I have often had a laugh at those who think that Masters don’t have any pain, or that they can cure themselves, as though they would care about it.

Swami Teaches Meditation

Bill:  Tell me some more of your eyes open meditation technique.

Swami:  That word absorption is a keyword, and when I was teaching yoga, formerly, I would make sure that the students learned how to absorb more, and more, and more of the pain that comes with long meditations. I had a unique method of holding them beyond their limit by taking them into my eyes. On the point they were going to give up a position or a meditation because of tension or pain, I would say, ”look right into my eyes.”

Then I could see the calm come over them. When it did I release them, and said “see you can hold it longer (the pain)” we would then all laugh. Of course I always told them I was in more pain than they were, and we would all laugh again. But it was true. I had learned how to absorb. Now they were learning. Many did, and to their advantage, as most that did went on to become famous people in their fields, and all were beautifully directed. We all used to have a weekly eight hour meditation, without moving. I use the Zen method of correction, which is a blow, if they moved. The blow became more anticipatory then did the posture pain.

What most people don’t realize is that once you go through the pain threshold, there is a complete relaxation of the body, so the last 20 minutes of the eight hours were bliss hahahaha!, And they all went into samadhi, hahahaha!

Of course Ramana always ran my classes. I gave everything over to him, and believe me there was so much laughter amongst the students. The joy was so great that was uncontrollable sometimes. It wasn’t good, but it was fun to let it happen sometimes. A good meditation is one without joy, and without any fluctuating sense in the mind. Just sitting-eyes wide open-and totally immovable.

In doing the eyes wide open meditation, just sitting and doing and thinking nothing, except to look with unblinking eyes, and when you realize you are thinking something, to revert again to just looking at the light with the eyes open, then as the pain sets in, to learn to absorb it about 10 min. longer than you thought you could there you cannot twitch, or scratch, or move a muscle. It is a great lesson in emotional control, because you will get angry, evil want to explode but if you do it all with love there is no effort in it -just absorbing, a big difference.

YANTRA Lesson

Bill:  Tell me some more about the study of Yantra (numerology)

Swami:  The lessons in Yantra are taken from a group called the Kaballerian society, who studied the ancient and sacred doctrine of the Jewish Cabala.  They in turn took it from the ancient sages of India. Although some of the wording is not yogic, the essence of the teaching is the same. They began, through ego, to think that they could alter the scientific method of Yantra and juggle the numbers to suit their own purposes.  Now there is one variance that ensued over the millennia, and that is both the Jews and the Kaballerian’s forgot how scientific was the balancing of names.

For example, the number six is called number of balance because it is a transitional number and joins the inspirational 1 3 5 7 9 two the2 4 8 of the technical numbers. The six is both technical and inspirational. That is why they call it the number of balance. The six can turn its hand to anything, from knitting to building a house to painting pictures and doing mathematics. The six is clever like a fox, and can usually outfox anyone. Where there is conflict between the name and the birthdate, negativity is created and it shows up as pride and manipulation of others, and possessiveness.

In this study it is important to understand and enjoy the life cycles of and study of each month in detail along with the year cycle. If also by studying the name and picture the name belongs to, you will learn to be able to look at someone and know what their numerical vibration is. Begin by taking to anyone you know well, maybe from work, get their birth date and do a chart on them. At first you’ll notice some likeness, later you will see how much they are like the name says they are. Still later you will see that they are the name. They are the first name first, and then they are the first and last name combined. The last name creates a family environment. That’s why with a one family name for example (by adding the vowels together),  everyone will be an individual they will standalone and separate. That is what the number one stands for in the chart.

The most important aspect of Yantra is to change your name so that the vibration of your birth path and that of your name become balanced harmonically, vibrationally to promote spiritual awakening.

Be Aware of SELF While Asleep

Bill: Can one practice yoga while asleep?

Swami: You are always conscious, so even well you are asleep, you, the ego, can place a thought to be aware of SELF while asleep.  This can be a tough one, because the ego starts out in a quest for its own aggrandizement, and then somewhere along the way realizes that the very journey it began, to puff itself up, will in the in the own demise. It is at this point that the real struggle begins. Now the will is the Self in action, so you must will your ego to remain aware of the Self while sleeping. If you go to sleep, don’t make a big deal of it. There is always the following evening to try again. Have a good chuckle at the slow improvements being made. Even to begin to understand what we are talking about at this moment is one giant step.
